An imagined meeting between two great rebels.
Written by Natalie McGrath & Directed by Josie Sutcliffe.
1913. Revolution stings the air. In an orchard two women meet in secret. Their actions have divided them. Divided a nation. Split their cause in two.
What happens when the two women are suffrage leaders and rebels; Emmeline Pankhurst and Millicent Fawcett?
The Cause considers the impact that a lifetime of political campaigning has on an individual. Asking how far would you go for what you believe in? Marking the centenary year of the first votes for some women in 1918, this dynamic production has an original music by Sarah Moody (Devil’s Violin) and film animation by artist Catherine Cartwright, projected for beautiful visual effect.
Brought to you by Dreadnought South West who toured Oxygen celebrating the great 1913 women’s pilgrimage in 2013. To find out more about their work go to: www.dreadoughtsouthwest.org.uk

Now in its fourth year, River Town brings the music of America’s heartland to Bristol. This year’s festival promises a vibrant programme of blues, bluegrass, country and gospel, performed by global icons and rising stars.
Featuring some of the best acts from both sides of the Atlantic, including Graham Nash, Rosanne Cash and The Barr Brothers, River Town hits the road with shows outside Colston Hall at Thekla, St George’s Bristol and The Wardrobe Theatre for over a fortnight of live music celebrating the rich sounds of the deep south.
Kelly Willis has returned with her seventh album, Back Being Blue. It’s been 11 years since her last solo release, 2007’s Translated from Love, but the Austin-based singer/songwriter has hardly been MIA in the intervening years, having recorded and toured as part of a duo with Bruce Robison.
Back in her late teens, fronting a celebrated but short-lived rockabilly band, Radio Ranch, famed singer/songwriter Nancy Griffith took a shine to her voice and recommended Willis to producer Tony Brown, one of the titans of Nashville country, who signed her to a deal with MCA. Her three major – label albums yielded plenty of critical acclaim, while her debut ‘What I Deserve’ was released on Rykodisc in 1999. Easy (2002) and Translated from Love (2007) generated equal love from fans, the press, and fellow musicians. Meanwhile, motherhood competed for her attention, and as challenging as work/family balance became, it led to a pleasing mid-career wrinkle when she backed into a side career with Robison, who conveniently happened to be not just her spouse but her creative and popular equal in the Americana world.
That Willis still feels like that scrappy young comer, six albums and four kids later, is good news for anyone about to take a shine to the only slightly broken-hearted-feeling spunk of the new album. Blue definitely continues to be her color, but more than anything, she’s back feeling new.
Much more than just a concert show, The Bluejays take you on a historical journey via breathtaking renditions of the biggest hits of the era (Rock Around The Clock, That's All Right, That'll Be The Day, Tutti Frutti, Summertime Blues, Johnny B. Goode, Wake Up Little Susie, La Bamba, A Teenager In Love and many more) and reveal how the Rock 'n' Roll movement, rather than being “a communicable disease”, brought about a dream of equality and freedom that we still chase to this day.
“A wonderful band!” – Brian May, Queen
“The Bluejays had the room jiving their fluorescent socks off!” – Howard Goodall, Composer

Set in a courtroom in the backstreets of downtown Purgatory, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot is a hilarious, riotous, piercing drama where witnesses as diverse as Satan, Mother Theresa and Sigmund Freud are called to give evidence. This side splitting, irreverent trial will make the inhabitants of Heaven, Hell and the audience, reconsider what each thought they knew about forgiveness, faith and the man who became the most infamous traitor in history. The audience can then vote to decide who they believe was ultimately responsible for the death of The Messiah.
