‘Adventures of the Yorkshire Shepherdess’
An Evening with Amanda Owen
In this frank, funny and informative new show, Yorkshire Shepherdess Amanda Owen shares heart-warming tales and honest anecdotes from her remarkable farming, family life in North Yorkshire. It's a life that has almost gone in today's modern world, one ruled by animals and the four seasons.
We’ll hear how Amanda grew up in Huddersfield, but was inspired by James Herriot’s books to leave her town life behind and head to the countryside. After working as a freelance dairy milker and alpaca shearer, she eventually settled down as a shepherdess at Ravenseat, one of the highest and most remote places in England, where she’s raised a flock of 1000 sheep and a family of 9 children with husband Clive.
Accompanied by some of Amanda's wonderful photography, we’ll experience the highs and lows of the farming year, which in 2018 included the extremes of the Beast from the East and one of the hottest summers on record. Ravenseat is a tenant farm and may not stay in the family, so when Amanda saw a nearby farmhouse up for sale, she knew it was her chance to create roots for the next generation. The old house needed a lot of renovation and money was tight, but with her usual resourcefulness Amanda set about the work herself, with some help from the family, a visiting plumber and a travelling monk. It's fair to say things did not go according to plan.
We’ll hear how Amanda juggles life as a shepherdess, home renovator and mother to nine children, with life as a best-selling author and being taken to the nation’s hearts with the Channel 5 hit series ‘Our Yorkshire Farm’. Funny, charming and filled with unforgettable characters, ‘Adventures of the Yorkshire Shepherdess' will delight anyone who has dreamt of a new life in the country.
Katey Brooks is a rebellious troubadour that resists formula. A devastating songwriting talent that has drawn comparisons with Jeff Buckley (Supajam), this ‘rising singer-songwriter
has the crowd eating out of her hands’ (The Independent), and is simply ‘not to be missed’ (Time Out). The ‘powerful’ (Evening Standard) songstress defies easy classification, with a
sound blending folk, soul, blues and country. Her finger-picked, harmony-inflected sound on the 2016 I Fought Lovers EP received an enthusiastic reception from radio stations around
the UK and internationally, including BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music and CBC Canada. She travelled the
world with her guitar on her back, writing everywhere from the Occupied West Bank to an
abandoned Finnish island. Over a career spanning four continents, Brooks has journeyed
from intimate living rooms to opulent concert halls, from dive bars to decorated studios with
some of music’s biggest names, boasting famous admirers like Joss Stone. She has recorded
with Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones and Paloma Faith at Abbey Road for BBC Radio 2’s
Children in Need single. She has shared bills with a host of big names including Newton Faulkner, Ghostpoet, Martin Simpson, Deaf Havana, Lou Rhodes (Lamb), Mike and the Mechanics, and Mystery Jets. She has played some of the world’s biggest festivals including Glastonbury, WOMAD, the 2012 Paralympics, and Australia’s National Folk Festival. And Stuart Bruce, who has recorded some of the greatest musical names of all time – from Stevie Wonder to Elton John and Van Morrison – is a fan. With her new album Revolute under construction, the mercurial songstress is more determined than ever to do things her own way. ‘Revolute will blend soul with Americana and even some country, to create something hopefully pretty different…My realm is connection and emotion, something quite raw, I think.’
They say all political careers end in tears. In Brandreth's case it's tears of laughter as the actor, author, ex-MP, One Show reporter and QI, Have I Got News For You and Countdown
star is back on tour with his new show celebrating all things theatrical. Without hesitation or repetition (and just a touch of deviation), Just a Minute regular Gyles delivers a dazzling
hour of wit, wisdom, high drama, low comedy, and hilarious name-dropping.

Based on the Play by Frank Wedekind
Based on Frank Wedekind’s groundbreaking and controversial play (once banned in Germany) this brilliant rock score and searingly emotional book take the story of sexual awakening, youth revolt, and self-discovery into a new century. It’s 1891, and grown-ups hold all the cards. With only each other for guidance, this group of young men and women travel the fraught and rocky path of adolescence. An electric, vibrant celebration of youth and rebellion, Spring Awakening fuses issues of morality, sexuality, and conformity into a story that packs a powerful emotional punch.

Take a journey into the curious, unexpected, and downright surreal origins of the words we use every day. Susie will retell the adventures that lie hidden within such words as lasagne (involving a chamber pot) and bugbear (a terrorising monster), and explain such oddities as the silent h in ghost and the mysterious disappearance of kempt, gormful, and ruly (and yes, you really can be gruntled). She will look to the lexicon of the past to fill some of today’s linguistic gaps – such as the frenzied fit of tidying we all do just as guests are about to descend (that’s a scurryfunge).
Alongside such forgotten stories you will hear Susie’s selection of the funniest moments from her 25 years on Countdown and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, as well as some startling results from eavesdropping on a group of waiters.
Each evening will include some of Susie’s favourite words from the towns and regions she visits, and she’ll be asking the audience for theirs. In fact, she’ll be welcoming any questions about word origins, usage irritations, the dreaded impact of Americanization, and the very future of our language in her very own ‘word surgery’.
MILTON IMPOSSIBLE – Warm up show
One man. One Mission. Is it possible? No, not really.
Milton reveals the truth about being an international spy, before being given a disappointing new identity which forced him to appear on Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo.
But this is also a love story with the twist, or at least a really bad sprain.
Just gloriously daft nonsense or is there a deeper meaning? Every man has his price. Sainsburys, where good food costs less.

Neo-classical post rockers We Stood Like Kings bring a new live soundtrack to the American
cult movie KOYAANISQATSI, directed by Godfrey
Reggio and released in 1982. It explores the relationship between man, nature and technology.
This 4-piece piano-based band hailing from Brussels has become a reference act in live soundtracks to silent cinema. Three projects have shaped We Stood Like Kings’ story so far. Together, these form a vibrant trilogy portraying two empires already lost –
BERLIN 1927, USSR 1926 – and a third one – USA 1982 – that seems to be running headlong towards its own destruction.
We Stood Like Kings will do anything to challenge the expected and successfully mix modern instrumental rock music with the treasures of yesterday’s cinema.
Paul Zerdin and his dysfunctional puppet family are back by popular demand with a brand-new UK tour. As well as starring everyone’s favourites Sam, Albert and Baby, there’ll be his new bodyguard, an urban fox, some hilarious audience participation - and a talking ice cream - all using a mixture of master puppeteering, state of the art animatronic wizardry and a unique blend of edgy comedy.
It's a quirk of British theatre that a man can get a standing ovation for spending the best part of 75 minutes on a stage talking to himself. It goes without saying that Paul’s skills are top notch – there's not a hint of movement from his lips and he has a strong command of a range of different voices but it’s his control of the puppets and sense of timing that brings his characters to life!
Don’t miss out on your chance to see the winner of America’s Got Talent and one of Britain’s finest entertainers.

Charlie Cunningham has announced his return with the release of a brand new single ‘Permanent Way’. Produced by Sam Scott & Duncan Tootill, ‘Permanent Way’ is the first new material from the British guitarist since the release of debut album ‘Lines’ in 2017 and is a nod to more that we can expect from him in 2019. ‘Permanent Way’ finds Charlie embellishing his sound with subtly arranged synths and an upbeat tempo, whilst still allowing enough space within the arrangement for his distinctive vocals to echo and captivate.
Alongside this new release, Charlie Cunningham will make a return to the live stage at the Redgrave Theatre in November.
